Box wit 1 DVD
Duration: 90 min.
The artistic legacy of artist Keith Haring is everywhere: his colorful, playful, graphic and cartoon-like images adorn walls, posters, T-shirts, watches and are etched in the collective memory. In this way Haring, who died (too) young, has fulfilled his original ideal: art should be available to everyone.
THE UNIVERSE OF KEITH HARING is an intimate portrait of the world-famous artist Keith Haring, one of the most popular and important artists of the twentieth century. No New York artist has bridged the gap between the intriguing New York street culture of the 1980s and downtown art galleries as brilliantly as icon Keith Haring. He quickly worked his way from provincial failure to internationally admired Pop Art evangelist and social activist.
THE UNIVERSE OF KEITH HARING contains interviews with his friends, family and colleagues interwoven with special archival material of Haring himself – in action – creating works of art in metro stations and other public places. The 80s electro/disco soundtrack illustrates the vibrancy of the New York art scene of the time. The film showcases the crème de la crème of the New York art and music scene: Grace Jones, Madonna, Yoko Ono, David LaChapelle, Kenny Scharf, Fab 5 Freddy, Andy Warhol, Ann Magnuson, Tony Shafrazi and Junior Vasquez.
THE UNIVERSE OF KEITH HARING is a unique portrait of a unique creative phenomenon: an icon of Pop Art.
