Scratch is a documentary about the world of the Hip-Hop DJ and current turntablism. From the South Brox of the 70’s to today’s San Francisco, the world’s best scratchers, diggers, party rockers and producers talk about beats, breaks, beat-juggling, battles and the endless possibilities of vinyl.
Graffiti writers have ‘Style Wars’, B-Boys and B-Girls have ‘The Freshest Kids’. Now with Scratch, DJs and Turntablists have their own documentary!- TimSki
Scratch is ‘the’ movie about the world of the Hip-Hop DJ. From the inception of Hip-Hop, when the first DJs experimented with their own party records (which helped inspire B-boying and rap), to contemporary scratching and turntablism. It is a film about DJs and producers who have radically changed the way we listen to, play and compose music. Here are the world’s best DJs, known for their ‘solo scratching’, taking part in international ‘DJ battles’, spinning for rappers, or at parties, with the most amazing records and samples. The film features dynamic performances and interviews with DJ Qbert, Z-Trip, Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys), Rob Swift and the Executioners, Cut Chemist & NuMark (Jurassic 5), DJ Craze, DJ Shadow, The Bullet Proof Space Travelers, Babu (Dilated Peoples), DJ Krush, DJ Premier, (Gangstarr) and others like the old school pioneers like Afrika Bambaataa, Jazzy Jay and Grand Wizard Theodore.
