Photographer Keith Baugh visited New York in 1973 when he was an art student and became fascinated by the letter forms painted on the city’s trains. He took hundred of pictures of the train art on his Nikon camera and they now make up one of the earliest records of New York subway art.

In the early 70s, the English photographer Keith Baugh went to Times Square, Harlem, the South Bronx and Coney Island. He was amazed to witness the birth of the graffiti movement on the New York subway. The result of these trips, the book Early New York Subway Graffiti 1973-1975 collects more than 200 photos taken at the time 36 years later, and is the privileged historical witness of what was to become the golden age of Graffiti.

No less than 150 Old School Kings of graffiti are featured, including all the pioneers: Ale-One, All-Jive, Blade, Chico, Cliff, Comet, Crachee, Doc Cool, Hondo, In, Jester, Kool Kevin, King, Lava, Mono, Riff, Roach, Rox, Ruben, Silver Tips, Staff161, Stim One, Super Strut, Tracy168, Vamm and many others. The book also bears witness to the trendy advertisements that adorned Manhattan in the early 70s.

This rare book had already been the subject of a first confidential edition of 128 pages in 2010. This new edition, also available in a very limited edition, has 56 more pages.
