The HWS-CREW is part of the second generation of the Stuttgart graffiti scene and has had a significant impact on the city with their images. In doing so, they pursued the goal of raising the bar ever higher in terms of quality and quantity. After more than 30 years, the moment has now come to look back and document the group’s work from 1987 to today in a book. The entire spectrum of writing, including trains, bombings, line productions and legal areas, is shown on 368 pages and 648 photos. The close contacts to Basel and Bern are highlighted, as are the crew’s formative journeys.
With the support of the writer Projekt_55, detailed text contributions, an interview and numerous anecdotes were created. Readers are immersed in a time when the whole of Germany was sitting in front of the television at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday evenings watching “Wetten, Dass”, there were no cell phones and no internet and you had to drive from Stuttgart to Munich, Dortmund or Basel to see graffiti. Over the years, the young people grew into adults and while the crew members’ hair slowly turned grey, the city’s then grey walls were now colourful. The following generations of Stuttgart writers had to deal with the fact that free space for them would only be found extremely rarely.
