For over ten years, photographer Kees Kamper regularly went on a graffiti hunt. He scanned the walls in Amsterdam in search of Pieces and tags. He captured them all, to the farthest corners of the city. His impressive collection of street art photographs shows work by all well-known ‘writers’, from Faile, Shoe, Otto Schade, Karski, C215 and KBTR to Anopsy, Stinkfish and Beast as well as a bunch of oter artists and stylewriters.
Numerous graffiti hotspots pass by: the Spuistraat of course, the NDSM and the Amsterdamsebrug, but also remarkable works in the Jordaan. A lot of graffiti disappeared through demolition and restoration, so that Kamper’s photos now offer a unique retrospective. This overview makes it understandable why street art deserves appreciation as a serious art form, with the landmark StreetArt Museum opening in 2018.
