Zombies are everywhere – in films, novels, music and games they threaten humanity’s very existence and reflect people’s growing fears of disease, plague, nuclear war and death. Ever since zombie movies became popular in the 1960s, there has been a growing interest in pop culture’s undead heroes. These fascinated WON ABC from Munich early on and inspired him to create his unique zombie characters. Thanks to him, zombies now have a permanent place in urban art. His first work COLOR KAMIKAZE from 1999 not only convinced with its affinity to undead beings, but also with filigree and impressive detail work, which even H.R. Giger already paid tribute.
ZOMBIE LOVE is now the long-awaited successor to what has now been called a “classic” book and trumps it with even more versatility and finesse, which WON shows in his illustrated ZOMBIE LOVE story. The conclusion looks back on his development – from his beginnings to his development as a world-renowned artist, characterized by his inimitable, morbid style.
With 73 pages, the first chapter is a typical WON zombie story in comic and graffiti style: It tells the story of the year 2101, when a scientist accidentally brought dead people back to life in Paracity. Graffiti and vandalism aren’t the zombies’ only passions: their urge to bite people is causing a zombie epidemic that threatens to wipe out humanity. The president of Paracity manages to eradicate the zombies, but a new threat seems to herald the apocalypse.
In addition to the artistic aspect of the story, there are also philosophical themes. With his zombies, WON questions people’s attitudes towards their environment, death and the undead and, of course, vandalism and illegal art forms. The second and final chapter of ZOMBIE LOVE offers an 80-page review of WON’s work over the past 13 years. He was able to spread his zombie virus all over the world through paintings, murals, sculptures and trains. To date, it has successfully infected countries such as the USA, Cuba, Jamaica, Thailand and many more…
