Skin Graf: Masters Of Graffiti Tattoo

This groundbreaking book gets up close and personal to show how two urban styles have melded together. Graffiti and tattoos are now firmly entrenched as mainstream art forms. Over the past few decades, these raw products of street culture have converged in a unique visual aesthetic definitively documented for the first time in this compelling and inspirational book. Famed graffiti tattoo artist Kaves and tattoo documentarian Billy Burke introduce, one by one, the masters of graffiti tattoo art, their personal stories, and their diverse handiwork. Each chapter contains an in-depth profile, a personal statement, and fascinating photos of studios and clients. Readers will learn about the "skin graffiti" process, view brilliant "flash" drawings (design sketches for patrons to choose from), and come away with a new understanding of and appreciation for an art form that transforms the human body into the ultimate canvas for self-expression.

About The Author

Michael "Kaves" McLeer is a world-renowned graffiti artist and musician turned tattooist. Having left his mark, literally, on the New York City transit system from the age of ten, Kaves eventually turned his attention to legal art in the form of tattooing and fine art as well as acting. He has created original pieces for companies such as Nike, Adidas, and Jaguar and for the Beastie Boys and Metallica, not to mention the 2011 Beaujolais Nouveau wine lable for Georges duboeuf. He owns and operates Brooklyn Made Tattoo in his hometown of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, from which he exports all of his unique work.

Piecebook Reloaded- Rare Graffiti Drawings- 1985-2005- USED

Like its critically celebrated predecessor, Piecebook Reloaded mimics the actual sketchbooks graffiti artists have drawn in and passed around for years. Featuring more than fifty renowned artists, including Reas, IZ the Wiz, Doc TC5, Veefer, Revolt, Pure, Abby, Ces, Part, Ket, Cope 2, Stem and more, Piecebook Reloaded tells the tale of graffiti’s evolution, from adrenalin-fueled street game to acceptance into the gallery world and corporate appropriation. From the mid-1980s through the first decade of the new century, distinctive styles pioneered by generations past took different shapes as new kids stepped up with spray cans in hand, taking what their "forebombers" created to heights never imagined. With paper stock identical to that of actual sketchbooks, as well as blank pages for readers to add their own masterpieces to the mix, Piecebook Reloaded delivers the same creative intimacy and honesty that fans of the art found in the first Piecebook’s pages.

Piecebook- The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers

This living history of the graffiti movement reproduces selections from the actual black books that graffiti artists use to perfect and share their work. Before it hits the wall, graffiti is often planned out in a black book - a common artist’s sketchbook sometimes called a “piece book” – “piece” being short for “masterpiece.” Well-worn and dog-eared, these books are used to develop and trade ideas with other graffiti writers, and they may end up being passed along from artist to artist, becoming unique records of creative expression. “Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers” chronicles the evolution of graffiti via images that weren’t intended for everyday people to see, focusing on the works of Germany City writers active from 1970s until the mid-1980s. Bold works from graffiti history’s most important sources or “seeds” - Zephyr, Dondi, Daze, CRASH, Lady Pink, T-Kid, CAP, and Ghost, among others - represent a dizzying array of techniques and styles.

Hello our name is LastPlak

Lastplak is a group of around nine painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Their goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Their work can be found all over the world, but their homebase is Rotterdam, The Netherlands, so that's where most of their stuff can be seen.

A book about ten years of Lastplak. Ten people, tens of thousands of spray cans of paint and just as many promotions, stickers, templates and murals, it was time to bundle the work. Hello, our name is… is about the passion for making murals, sticker campaigns and the adventures they experienced. Hello, our name is… is a richly illustrated book that takes the reader through the history of Lastplak by means of many photos.

Hello, our name is Lastplak and we love to paint!

Lastplak started as a group of young people who - outside the official circuit around Rotterdam - appropriated Rotterdam with graffiti and sticker campaigns. A dozen of these stickers from that time decided to unite under the name Lastplak. Lastplak is a loose association, without rules but with solidarity and spontaneous actions. Lastplak became a well-known name in international urban art circles, because worldwide its members left behind guerrilla art. Lastplak's work can be seen outside of Rotterdam in St. Petersburg, Berlin and Los Angeles. After a number of years of pure stickers, Lastplak started painting. Sometimes on the street, sometimes indoors, sometimes illegally and sometimes on assignment. In this way the group eventually entered all kinds of cultural circuits. Lastplak has been around for ten years now and it is time for a book. This book is not only about the adventures of a special collective, but also about a crucial piece of art history of the most modern city in the Netherlands.

Dize Warmstyle Dizaster

This book is dedicated to the work of the Parisian writer Dize. His ability to draw simple styles and original tags, the diversity in his search for letters and his numerous collaborations in big scenes are reasons to focus on the talented writer. Inevasible and respected by his community, Dize practises both classical and innovative graffiti all at once, keeping the energy and the soul of the 70s pioneers who bombed the New York subway cars. This book details several aspects of his work in 3 parts. The first part, starting from his debut in 1989 to this year, shows his influences and evolution, from his first tags on the school desks to his fresh banging wildstyles. Dize’s important meetings and other events are displayed in full color pictures. The second part is focused on his production since the year 2000. A large and detailed view of his work from the last four years: tags, throw ups, pieces and “work in progress” pictures are commented upon and analysed by Dize and his partners. The last part displays his inside world, sketches, canvases, calligraphic and typographic experiences; a journey through the mind of a writer.

De Muur & andere spots. Graffiti in Almere

Almere has had a rich graffiti and youth culture since its inception. The publication 'De Muur and other spots. Graffiti in Almere' paints a picture of the development of graffiti in Almere from 1986 to 2008. The book contains interviews with and anecdotes of graffiti writers from Almere of the past 25 years, including TIMER / AIR, AGRES, FRIEK, LOEKIE, SPECS, MABE and 21 GRAMS. In addition, MC Raymzter, and (former) employees of the Almere police, the Municipality of Almere and Stichting De Schoor will also speak. De Muur is one of the important legal graffiti spots in Almere, an initiative of youth worker René Kempenaar (R.I.P.). Obviously attention for this place, but the book also contains a lot of (full color) photo material of graffiti that was made elsewhere in Almere.
