Booktitle: All Surface
Dimensions: 24 x 14 x 0,7 cm.
The 244-page book “All Surface” is dedicated exclusively to the topic of graffiti tags in Dortmund. The temporal focus is primarily on the 1980s and 1990s; two decades that stand for the beginning and the high point of this subculture in Dortmund.
This first comprehensive documentation of the subject includes over 500 photographs of tags, some of which were taken exclusively for this publication over a period of more than 10 years, or which were painstakingly compiled by the authors. Supplemented by quotes from contemporary witnesses and scene actors, “All Surface” offers the unprecedented opportunity to delve deeply into the topic of “tagging in Dortmund”, both historically and visually.
In addition to numerous motifs from well-known protagonists such as Chintz, Shark, Mason, Zodiak, etc., the book also shows a rich abundance of lesser-known names that shaped the subcultural cityscape for many years.
Tagging in Dortmund started early. Countless pseudonyms adorned all available surfaces of the city in the mid-80s and at that time it was not even foreseeable what was to follow.
“All Surface” tries to go back to the beginning and to adequately present a maximum of days together for the first time.
Enjoy the journey through time!
