A documentation of trainwriting-culture
The guard makes his hourly round. Just wait for the train and past motion detectors and the surveillance cameras. Let’s go! Firstlines, Fill-In, Background, 3d’s, Outlines. The finishing touches: highlights and elements. 15 minutes later, the subway is decorated. Lightning storms! The aim of the project Blütezeit by the young artist Nils Müller is to depict the range of this controversial lifestyle. It took him to various railway systems in the metropolises of Europe (including Berlin, Paris, Hamburg, London, Milan, Stockholm) and brought him all sorts of conflicts with various legal representatives. But neither imprisonment, fines nor other inconveniences could stop him from documenting this important part of his life, whose influences and values still shape him today.
His first book, published by Colortrip Verlag in Hamburg, has 168 pages of high-quality matt paper. The authentic photos show authentic people of the secretive subculture of trainwriting. They express hatred, passion, anonymity and the need for communication. The images convey feelings and take you into breathtaking backdrops, so that the observer quickly realizes; Graffiti is more than indiscriminate spraying of objects, but a well-considered, planned act, characterized by friendship, intimacy and passion.
When browsing through Blütezeit you are so close to the viewpoint of a writer that you could almost make yourself liable as a viewer. The photos of the artist are underlined by quotes from recognized and active trainwriters such as: Atom, Banos, Kaos, Moses.
