The exhibition “Eine Stadt Wird Bunt. Hamburg Graffiti History 1980-1999”
(2 November 2022 to 31 July 2023) at the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte, tells the story of the origins of this youth and subculture in Hamburg. Nearly 500 exhibits, including photos, texts, sketchbooks, spray cans, newspapers, magazines, records, and accessories have been compiled by the curators Oliver Nebel, Frank Petering, Mirko Reisser and Andreas Timm. During their research, the four were able to build on their previous joint work: They are the editors of the opulent, richly illustrated volume “EINE STADT WIRD BUNT” (A CITY BECOMES COLOURFUL), published in 2021, from which the exhibition took its title.
