Tacho: “This project began in 1993 after traveling by train to Barcelona and seeing the walls with non-political graffiti and that I did not know their origin and authorship.
From that moment on, I organized a series of trips through Spanish cities, more than 45 collected in the book, in order to preserve those graphic documents for posterity. The purpose of offering this rich photographic archive was presented when I met Jaume Gómez, passionate about old school graffiti, who, upon seeing the archive, exclaimed enthusiastically: “Tacho, this has to come to light”.
Fruit of several years of fieldwork traveling in search of the scarce and hidden pieces, specifically from 1993 to 1996. Now more recently, between the years 2020 and 2021 we have prepared the material, collecting information, diving into forums and blogs to offer excellent and exclusive content. It has been a laborious and passionate task that has required a constructive and pedagogical approach to make all the pieces of the puzzle fit together”.
The book has more than 550 photographs of more than 45 Spanish cities, along with the map of the railway lines extracted from the Renfe guide of ’93. Well documented including locations, maps, signatures of its authors and interviews with some of the writers of the time.
All images are taken on 35mm film with Nikon FM2 camera and developed in the laboratory and subsequently scanned.
MATERIAL SELECTION AND DESIGN PROCESS
“They were months of exhaustive and meticulous work, selecting the more than 550 images for the book, within an archive of more than 2000 photographs was not easy. We use quality and representativeness criteria, collating locations, assigning authorship, editing images etc.
The presentation was given by Jaume Gómez, an expert in old school graffiti, along with the estimable contribution of Fernando Figueroa, author of several graffiti books.
In the story of the book I tell in first person my impressions, notes that I took at the end of the day in notebooks and anecdotes of the trips, both by bus and car, but mainly by train.
This makes it a travel book for those who want to relive the stages of the routes and know the scenarios where the images were taken”. – Tacho
