‘Sketchy People’ is ‘bout the huge trend in graffiti culture when writers photocopied eachothers blackbook pages. In this 80’s era, pre internet, this was a great way to spread styles and socialize while trading or selling eachother photocopies. It was common for people to add their tags or stamp to the photocopies. The early days of getting cheap fame. Writers from all over the Netherlands send eachother packages with copies. This phenomenon spread to other European countries and had a huge style influence on Dutch graffiti. The drawings of characters were a big part of this movement. Young kids showing their talent by giving their own twist to their favourite comics. B-boys, gangsters, weird animals, Bodé characters etc. ‘Sketchy People’ shows a variety of styles that were used in this era. Most of these young kids were very talented at drawing comics. Some of them are famous illustrators today!
