In this book, we focus on art in public space. Especially in recent years, a multitude of painted and sprayed pictures have been created on and in almost every imaginable surface and dimension.
An important catalyst for this was the rapid spread of graffiti in our metropolises. This in turn developed into a young, creative movement that, in addition to graffiti, influenced by many artistic styles, is immortalized on the walls and other public places of our cities.
One of many representatives of this international movement is the Berlin artist Lake. In this illustrated book we want to document Lakes murals in particular, from the small garden wall to the large house facade. We show facade paintings from the mid 90s to the present day from Germany, Europe. Latin America, and especially from his hometown Berlin!
We do not want to define a precise generic term for Lakes’ pictures. It is a mix of graffiti, street art, comic. Cartoon elements and much more. The content of the pictures also vary greatly, with particular emphasis on his political work.
Since Lake lives from the execution of commissioned work, we show not only many free works, but also some work that was commissioned.
